Germany · a German forest village
The heroes of this story.

The hood is love you can wear. Looks at the feather, the cages, the bird — free — and says "Genug." Enough. Shares the hood with the wolf pup.

Loves golden apples; drops a single feather — a gift, not a wound — and drops one more, on purpose, on the pup's nose. Companion name/gender pending ASK-RICARDO; never caged.

Amber eyes, oversized paws, forest-green scarf; a nose for finding things. Sits between Rotkäppchen and the cage-builders — stays, doesn't growl. Name TBD.

Tied the red hood under her chin: "It was mine before it was yours."
Someone has been taking the golden apples, so Rotkäppchen watches the tree — and a bird of pure gold lands to eat an apple from her hand, dropping one golden feather. The grown-ups plan cages; the wolf pup sits between her and the cage-builders. Rotkäppchen ties the feather into her hood's ribbon and says "Genug" — enough. One feather. One friend. Enough. That winter the carver teaches her to turn a wooden bird — made, not born; kept, not caged.
