Russia · the land of the long dark — winter Russia
The heroes of this story.
Made of snow; she IS winter, but lonely in it. Learns wonder is a loan: wave right for need, left for return — and never touch the golden cage.
The helper from page one — never the villain. Shows the one rule with his body: raised paw, held look. Walks her away from the lanterns.
Glows; never captured in this book. Gifts a feather — given, not found — a loan of magic with a return policy.
In the land of the long dark, a golden Firebird feather spirals down to lonely Snegurochka — and lanterns turn toward the light like moths. The Gray Wolf leads her away from the baited golden cage, and she learns: the feather was never meant to be kept. She lays it back in the snow where it fell — glowing, free — to light the dark for everyone. A freely given feather is a loan of magic, with a return policy.
