Meet the friends

The heroes of this story.

The girl

The girl

girl — Heidi-inspired protagonist (name TBD)

Isn't afraid of much. Waits in the loft, sings low to the hissing baby, and stands in the loft door against the lanterns: "Come and see him be un-scary." ASK-RICARDO: name TBD — she is not Heidi.

The baby Tatzelwurm

The baby Tatzelwurm

baby — cat face, serpent body, two forelegs

The "monster" in the hayloft: hisses when startled, calms when sung to, jumps straight up with delight — boing! Never venom, never poison-breath.

The Pilatus dragonet

The Pilatus dragonet

small winged Alpine dragon

Circles the barn curious as a cat, folds its wings on the beam like a tent. Its shadow crosses the moon — a promise written in wings.

The story

Every morning the hayloft is scattered, and the village cries monster — Tatzelwurm! But the girl waits in the loft and finds a baby: cat face, long snaky body, two little legs, terrified. She sings it calm, and when the village comes with lanterns and a plan, she stands in the loft door and makes them really look. Not a monster. A baby. Care, not capture: that is the rule.

What little minds learn

  • German words woven and glossed (pending verification)
  • Don't fear the misunderstood — look before you judge
  • Trust at the speed of a burrow: calm through song, not force
  • Every cow wears a bell so the mountain knows where they are
