Apache · Western · the forested mountains of the Western Apache homeland
The heroes of this story.

Full of questions, biggest of all: who is my father? Learns the sky road's rules — ask, listen the first time, feed the flyer — and that courage is also care. No personal name in the manuscript.

Small, busy, kind-eyed. Gives the rules and a cloth of meat for Eagle: "The sky road has rules."

Huge and dignified, every wingbeat deliberate. Carries the boy in the shielding fold — earned with asking first, fed with meat. Never speaks.

"Some questions," she says, "are for walking."
A boy walks into the pines to find his father's house, and Spider Woman teaches him the sky road's rules: ask, listen the first time, feed the flyer. Eagle carries him to the Sun's house — close enough to glimpse, not to land — and when the cold wind comes, the boy feeds the flyer again and learns courage is also care. He lands carrying a feather given, not taken, and ties one knot per answered question — leaving one untied for tomorrow's. NOTE: title is a DRAFT, keeper-gated.
