Mexico friend-cast · craft track · Mateo's street, Mexico
The heroes of this story.

Teaches Cata papel picado: first the fold, then the hold, then the cut. Pins her torn first try to the wall — "The first one teaches the second one."

Her hand hurries; the paper tears like a gasp. Folds slower, cuts little whisper-bites, and holds a clean flower to the light.

Hops onto the torn piece, tilts her head, hops onto the good one. Watches with one wing lifted, like a supervisor.

His scissors open and close like breathing. "Despacio." "La mano aprende." — the hand learns.

Rides past on the same wind — and does not touch a single panel.
Today Mateo teaches Cata to make papel picado: first the fold, then the hold, then the cut — the cut you can't uncut. Cata hurries and tears it; Abuelo's slow hands show her despacio, and the whisper-cut makes paper flowers fall like snow that isn't cold. Her torn first try goes on the workshop wall next to all Mateo's old torn ones — still teaching — while the clean flower hangs on the street wire, air and light dancing.
